TYCO HEALTHCARE / MALLINCKRODT AND IRADIMED ANNOUNCE NORTH AMERICAN AGREEMENTAward-Winning MRidium™ MRI Infusion System to be Sold by Mallinckrodt ISMRM ANNUAL MEETING, SEATTLE, WA (May 10, 2006) – Allowing continuous flow of intravenous drugs during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures has always been very challenging. The strong magnetic field always present with MRI scanners prohibited the use of traditional infusion pumps in the scan room. The need to continue administration of life-sustaining drugs necessitated makeshift methods to ensure patients receive necessary fluids throughout the MR procedure. The solution to that problem arrived last year in the form of the MRidium™ MRI IV pump, manufactured by IRadimed Corporation of Winter Park, FL. This exciting new product will soon be sold in the U.S., Canada and Mexico exclusively through Mallinckrodt Inc. of St. Louis, MO, a division of Tyco Healthcare. more »

Non-Magnetic, Smart Infusion Pump Designed for Fluid Delivery in MR EnvironmentThe MRidium MRI Infusion pump addresses a critical need for patients on continuous infusion therapy, whose diagnosis and treatment increasingly rely on the high-resolution images provided by MR scans. Patients frequently can wait days for an MR scan, until they are stable enough to temporarily suspend their medications. If suspension is not an option, a patient may be removed from the medication, risking infection, patient safety, or increased discomfort. Many times patients remain connected to the hospitals non-MR compatible infusion pump outside the scanner room by attaching anywhere from 15 to 30 feet of extension tubing. All of these methods affect patient safety, cost, and can interfere with the MR scan causing blurred images. more »
